Wedding Wednesday: Our Proposal Story

Wedding WednesdayMrs. Mug, Earrings

Happy Wednesday! Today I wanted to introduce a new series you will be seeing here on Between the Pearls once a month. If you have been following along here or my social media for a while then you may know that I got engaged to my high school sweetheart in March of 2016. We will be getting married April 2018 and I wanted to share our wedding journey with y’all. I will keep y’all updated with all of the planning with the Wedding Wednesday series.

We decided on a long engagement because we both wanted to finish up our undergraduate degrees and start on our careers before the wedding. I never made a big announcement here after we got engaged so I wanted to share our engagement story to start off this series.

Matt and I have been together since High School. Last year was our five year anniversary so I really wanted to take a big trip. We always go on small weekend getaways for our anniversary but I wanted this one to be special since it was marking five years together. I got the idea that we should head to Disney World. If you know me at all then you know that I am obsessed with all things Disney and Matt had never been, so that needed to be rectified.

We ended up going for a week and I wanted to make sure that we visited Magic Kingdom on Thursday, the actual day of our anniversary, because it is my favorite park and I wanted to have a nice dinner at the Be Our Guest restaurant – Beauty and the Beast is my favorite! So right after we walked into the park, I of course wanted to get out picture taken in front of the castle because, well, who doesn’t?

We asked one of the photographers to take a few pictures of us with my phone. After a few shots Matt went up to him and secretly told him to put it on video mode. He walked back up to me, got down on one knee, and proposed. I was in complete shock when this happened. I didn’t even notice all the people watching and cheering so I am glad he captured it on video so I can re-watch that moment forever. I knew we would get engaged but I didn’t think it would happen then, so I look so silly on the video, but I was so incredibly happy. Later, he told me that he had planned to propose at dinner or during the fireworks that night but he just couldn’t wait any longer.

So there you have it. Our fairytale proposal story. I feel so lucky to have been able to spend so much of my life so far with Matt and I am excited for the years to come. So now that the sappy stuff is over the rest of Wedding Wednesday will be more focused on the wedding planning process so stay tuned!
