I am very excited about today’s post because it is the first in a new “Work Wear” series. This Work Wear Wednesday series will take place once a month here on Between the Pearls. I worked in a business casual office for three years while I was working on my Master’s degree. Now that I am close to graduating and getting back into the workforce it was finally the time to start this series on the blog. It only felt right to kick off this series with the basics you need to build a work wardrobe. This is all about the foundation of your wardrobe and we will expand from here.

Button Down Blouse
I’ve already shared my love for a classic white button down but really a button down blouse in any color or pattern would is a great piece for your work wardrobe. They have them to fit pretty much any style so that you can show your personality while still being professional. Plus they pair well with trousers, skirts, or even jeans for casual Fridays.
Pants are obviously a staple for workwear but I prefer more untraditional styles, such as wide leg or tie waist. You could also go with the traditional straight leg style. All of this will definitely depend on your works dress code.
Skirts always came into my workwear rotation once the weather warmed up. When you live in the South it’s not appealing to wear pants during the summer so skirts are a great option.
Dresses are my go to when it comes to a work outfit. It’s so easy to put on a dress and then boom! your outfit is complete. Whether it’s Summer or your just in a rush having a staple workwear dress is a must in your wardrobe.
I’ve talked about my love of blazers on here a lot so you already know it’s one of my staple pieces for work as well. There are so many blazer styles nowadays that you aren’t limited to the super structured blazers of the past.
While heels are definitely more optional nowadays there are still some settings where they are expected. You may also just love wearing heels so having a pair that a comfortable is a must, especially if you are on your feet a lot during the day.
I have never worked in an office that wasn’t freezing cold most of the time. In my last office job, I always kept a plain black cardigan at my desk to keep me warm. A cardigan is also a great alternative to a blazer if your work setting isn’t very formal.
A stylish flat is my go-to option for most work days. My best tip would be to find your favorite pair and then buy it in every color. I personally love a pointed toe for workwear because to me it looks more polished.
For work wear its best to stick to a simple style with little embellishment. This makes sure you can wear the bag year round and in all work-related situations. The bag in the photos is the one that I carried to work with me 5 days a week for 2 years.
Last, is a more seasonal piece but still very important for your workwear wardrobe. A stylish, classic coat option will keep you looking put together even when it’s the dead of winter.
