The Summer months are when my hair takes the most damage. Between the pool or beach and the sun exposure, my hair dries out and doesn’t look it’s best. This year it is more of a concern for me because I am getting married in April and trying to grow my hair out. I have been trying a lot of different things to keep my hair healthy for the wedding throughout the last few months. I wanted to share with you how I am maintaining healthy Summer hair. Even if you aren’t getting married and just wanting your hair to look it’s best these tips should help you out.
Use Less Heat
The number one thing I have done to keep my hair healthy for my wedding is cut back on heat styling. I am trying to do the least amount of damage as possible so that it can continue to grow and be healthy.
I have cut back to heat styling once a week or every other week. The longer I can go without it the better. I have ended up wearing my hair natural or braiding it to give it some waves.
In addition to heat styling, I am getting regular trims as well. In the past, I only cut my hair twice a year, but I am now getting rid of any dead ends and refreshing my layers every 3 months.
This has also helped my hair from getting weighed down so it keeps it’s volume longer. This has been very helpful because before I would be using lots of products to add volume to my hair.
Use Repairing Hair Products
In combination with everything else the best thing to do is find great products that will repair any damage, your hair may suffer. During the Summer months, my hair gets so dry from swimming and being in the sun.
So I have focused on using products that will help bring back moisture to my hair. Use a Leave-in Treatment
I notice the biggest difference in my hair when I use a leave-in treatment. My favorite kind of treatment tends to be ones that are oil based. They are the best at adding moisture and shine to my hair without weighing it down.

Speaking of lots of products, I am cutting back on the number of products I use on my hair. I have cut back on using dry shampoo and volumizing products. Also, with less heat styling means fewer products I have to use to hold the style.
I try to wash my hair about twice a week. Using fewer products helps my hair not get weighed down between washes. Less buildup also helps with going longer between washes and keeps my hair healthier.
