How To Wear Florals When It's Not Really Your Thing

Happy Monday and first day of May! I’m going to be that person and say I don’t know how it’s already the fifth month of 2017. This year has gone by so fast but this month should be a fun one. I’m out of school for the month, my best friend just moved back to Birmingham, and I am heading down to Gulf Shores to go to HangOut Fest at the end of the month. So stay tuned for a lot of fun things on the blog and social media this month!

I’ve never been the girl to wear a lot of pink or florals. My color palette tends to be more neutral but something about the pattern of this dress got me. So I wanted to share some tips on how to wear florals in case some of you are like me and normally stick with simple patterns or neutrals.

Keep the silhouette simple

Another issue I run into when it comes to floral pieces is that they are usually light flowy fabrics with ruffles. Now don’t get me wrong I love a good flowy dress but mixed with a floral pattern it becomes too much for me. So stick with a simple cut and let the pattern be the main feature.

Choose the right colors

So a big part of me buying this dress was the colors in the pattern. I loved the mix of blues and cranberry colors as well as the intricate patterns. These colors fit better with my style than the typically light pinks and greens that you see with floral patterns. So stick with non traditional floral colors like I did with this other floral dress from last year.

Don’t let your accessories compete

The last tip is to let your accessories accent the pattern not compete with it. For my look I chose a classic shoe that matched the blue in my dress. I also chose these pink sunglasses to accent the other tones in the pattern – plus I love these sunglasses so I wear them whenever I can.
