We are currently 3 days from December and the sprint that is the weeks leading up to Christmas. Tis the season to shop like crazy, last minute errands, less sunshine, and generally cold weather. There are of course the perks of the Holiday season like spending time with friends and family, hot cocoa, family traditions, and so much more. Sometimes though we focus on the craziness of it all and forget about ourselves in the process. Self-care ideas are preached a lot nowadays and I find them especially important during the winter months. I’ve got a couple of go-to’s when it comes to lifting my mood and unwinding…

Establish a Pamper Routine
One of the best ways I have found to relax and treat myself this time of year is to establish a pamper routine that makes me feel my best. I incorporate this routine mostly in the evenings when I am winding down from the day. When it’s cold out I have to pay more attention to making sure my skin stays hydrated. This is why a big part of pampering myself is setting up a good skincare routine with products that are suited for extra hydration.
I use an oil cleanser to remove any makeup then follow up with a gentle cleanser to make sure my face is nice and clean. Then I move on to toning and moisturizing. Recently, I went to CVS to pick up some new beauty products because it’s so close by and they have great deals. They had a sale going on and I use their rewards program to earn money off my future beauty purchases. I picked up the Aveeno MaxGlow Infusion Drops because they give your skin a 48-hours boost of moisture. You can use this moisture boost serum alone or with your moisturizer. I prefer to mix it in with the moisturizer I am currently using for the day or night.
If my skin is feeling extra dry then I will skip my normal moisturizer and put on the Aveeno MaxGlow No Mess Sleep Mask instead. I have been loving overnight masks lately, as I mentioned in my last favorites post, because they help even skin tone and texture for soft, luminous skin when you wake up. I mean who doesn’t want to just be able to wake up to beautiful skin?
Take Time for Yourself
Another great way to practice some self-care is to dedicate some time for yourself. This can be as easy as going to get your favorite warm beverage. (mine is apple cider, yum!) Another great way to warm up from the cold and relax is to take a hot shower or bath. Focus on indoor activities like reading a book, playing board games, write in a journal, go to an indoor holiday market, visit a museum, listen to your favorite podcast, or organizing your home. Last but not least is make sure you’re getting enough sleep.
DISCLAIMER: I am not a doctor and you should seek medical advice from one if you are depressed or concerned about the effects of a sun lamp.
I think this is often overlooked but if you are like me where your mood is affected by the weather then this is a great idea. Sun lamps create artificial sunlight that you can set up in your home. This artificial light helps regulate the melatonin levels in your body which regulate your sleep cycles. It also helps your serotonin levels which affect your mood. It’s best to use a lamp with bright white light and these are easily purchased online.
