Festival of Tulips
You don’t have to take a plane to the Netherlands to frolick through gorgeous tulips. The best tulip festival in the southern U.S. is a hidden gem right in the middle of Alabama. I’ve had my eye on this festival for a year and have been checking their website every day for a month to see when they would be in bloom. This festival has over 100,000 tulips in different varieties and is open from mid-February to mid-March every year. You can pick your own tulips to bring home and replant so that they will come back each year. I don’t have a green thumb to keep them alive but I never miss an opportunity to be surrounded by flowers. I highly recommend not wearing white pants. Also, rain boots are a great idea if it has been raining recently before you visit.
The Festival of Tulips is held in American Village at 3727 AL-119, Montevallo, Alabama 35115. It’s a quick 30 minute trip from Birmingham and would be an easy day trip from most of north Alabama. Admission is $10 on weekdays and $5 on weekends plus $1.50 per flower – cards or cash.
