Sometimes I feel so overwhelmed that my brain just can’t seem to function and focus on what I need it to. I’m actually writing this post right now because I had this whole post ready to go but no words to put with these images. Coming up with something off the cuff. So here I am hoping to help you with what to do when you are feeling uninspired.
These tips to help you when you are feeling uninspired or overwhelmed can apply to anything; school, work, hobbies, etc.
Just do it. Get up and get your mind on something else. Whether that’s taking a nap, working on something else, or mindlessly scrolling through social media. Just get away from what’s frustrating you. Trust me it will still be there when you are ready to tackle it. This will help take some of the stress away and even if you are saying “I can’t just leave it alone. I need to get it done now.” chances are you don’t actually need to. Unless you majorly procrastinated on school work or work “work” and are coming up on a huge deadline then move on to the other tips.
Find Inspiration in New Places
This means get out of your comfort zone. Stop looking at the usual places for inspiration or help. Click out of Pinterest and go to a local library. Walk around your neighborhood. Talk to different colleagues or friends. Everyone can be a resource if you let them. Everyone has unique perspectives that are different than what you have already thought of. So start looking in unusual places for help or answers.
Change how you are looking at the issues. Is it really a big deal? And if it is, then how can you approach it differently. Schedule out a plan on how you can deal with it. Write out everything instead of keeping it all in your head. Basically, do what you can to look at and approach what you are doing in a new way.
Okay, okay, I know this isn’t always an option but in my counseling courses whenever we look at a problem we list every possibility even if you know you wouldn’t or shouldn’t do it. Giving up is a course of action you can take. Whether it’s the right one is a different story and really dependent on what you’re doing. But never underestimate the power you have to not do something. It’s there and it’s a choice.
